Our Social Responsibility

Here at whey’d we take pride in the products we produce but also, more importantly, in how & where we produce them. Below you’ll see the initiatives that make whey’d unique and help us stay on the right track, to build a brand for the future whilst helping out along the way

CARBON NEUTRAL

We offset our carbon footprint of our whey production by planting the relevant number of trees with The Woodland Trust. It’s important to us that we’re not harming the environment for generations to come, so the trees planted help produce more oxygen than carbon emissions from our dairy cows, therefore resulting in a zero carbon footprint. Our dairy supplier has planted 45,000 trees in tandem with their farmers over the past two years!

AMONG MOST SUSTAINABLE DAIRY IN EUROPE

Constant measuring and sharing best practices across our 1,220 family-run dairy farms mean our Irish dairy is among the most sustainable in Europe. Each farm is accredited by the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme (SDAS). The SDAS has been designed to assess and record data to demonstrate the sustainability of dairying in a systematic way. This will allow us to measure at an individual farm level: 1. Carbon Footprint 2. Water Footprint 3. Energy Footprint We can then identify any potential low performing farms and promote best practise through our farm advisers. Farmer’s excellence is recognised through our annual awards.

FULLY TRACEABLE TO FARM SOURCE

We’re proud of our dairy source & can trace each batch of whey back to the farms that produced it! It’s always amazed us that whey brands don’t give you full disclosure as to where they source their dairy. For us, this was a big red flag and after further research, there was a reason they weren’t telling us! We have the ability to track every batch we produce back to the individual farms that produce the dairy for our wonderful whey shakes. This is important as it gives our customers reassurance that our whey comes from an ethical source & that we’re not hiding anything!

ETHICALLY SOURCED

Our farmers treat their cows like family & on average each cow has just under 1 acre of fresh, rich, GMO-free pasture to graze on each day. How do we know our whey is ethically sourced? Because we regularly visit them! The reason we source our whey from Irish dairy farmers is because Irish cows graze outside on GMO-free grass for nearly 80% of their lactation – that’s more than anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere. This means that the happy healthy cows produce high quality milk full of nutrients that help you recover and grow! Good ole happy Irish cows eh!
